About us
The Union of Societies “Our Children” was
founded in the 1950s and since then has actively participated trough activities
promoting the wellbeing of children.
All of the Union’s program activities are based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and the wishes, interests and needs of children and parents. The Union’s activities involve children from their birth till the end of their elementary school education.
The Union originated several actions that have been implemented in the Croatian National Plan of Activities for the Rights and Interests of Children for the Years 2006-2012. The following programs are noted in the National Plan: Children’s Forums, Children’s Councils, Child Friendly Towns and Districts and For the Child’s Smile in the Hospital.
Programs regarding culture and artistic creation of children include the annual Grigor Vitez Award for literary and artistic creation in children’s books and the Festival of Children’s Creations in Societies “Our Children”. The Union also supports other programs in the field of education, preventive health and social care and marks dates that are important to children by organizing activities aimed at raising awareness and knowledge of important themes for the wellbeing of children. Children’s Week and Messages of Children for Adults are important actions for promoting children’s needs and their participation within the society.
Network
The Union operates on the national level and is organized through its network of a 100 local Societies “Our Children” active in different towns and districts in Croatia.
